再建築不可の土地に建つ戸建て住宅のリノベーションである。既存家屋の形状を維持して、基礎補強から全面的な耐震補強を行い、耐震性能そして環境性能を新築同等まで引き上げている。
周辺が建て込んだ場所であることから、特に2階の採光を確保することがポイントとなった。かろうじて西側は駐車場で開けていることからハイサイドライトを設けて、さらにトップライトを入れて上部から光を取り込んでいる。しかし、それだけでは局所的な明るさを得るだけになるので、天井面に半透明ポリカーボネート板を用いた光天井にして、部屋全体に光が行き渡るようにしている。
光天井は、野縁組の構成を組み替えてつくっている。野縁受けの下に野縁を流して天井材を貼る一般的な構成に対して、野縁受けと野縁の間に天井材を挟んでいる。また2階を中央で仕切る木製ガラス戸は、野縁材と同等の細い材で組んだ框戸にしている。これは我々が以前設計した「東松山の住宅」で製作し、自社運営の建具メーカー〈戸戸〉で製品化している「木枠建具」という、見付けがわずか30mmの木製ガラス戸である。これをさらに華奢にして野縁材に近い寸法にしている。この極限まで細い框戸と、野縁組を再構成した光天井によって、光に満たされる家へと生まれ変わった。

This is a renovation of a detached house on a lot that cannot be rebuilt. While maintaining the shape of the existing house, we reinforced the foundation and all aspects of the house to raise its seismic and environmental performance to the same level as a new building. The key point of the project was to secure lighting on the second floor, as the surrounding area is built-up. The west side of the building is open to the parking lot, so a high sidelight was installed, and then a top light was added to bring in light from the top. However, this alone would only provide localized brightness, so the ceiling surface was made of translucent polycarbonate panels to create a light ceiling that spreads light throughout the room. The light ceiling is made by rearranging the structure of the base frame. In contrast to the general configuration in which the ceiling material is affixed to the base of the base frame, the ceiling material is sandwiched between the base frame and the base frame. The wooden glass door that divides the second floor is a stile-and-rail door made of the same thin wood as the base frame. This extremely slender stile and rail door and the light ceiling, which reconfigured the field edge assembly, transformed the house into a house filled with light.
